Digital twins, EU grants, and data: key takeaways from an online conference for communities

An online conference titled «Digital Solutions and International Funding for Community Development» was held, focusing on opportunities for international technical, donor, and investment support for Ukrainian communities, as well as modern digital tools that help plan territorial development, attract funding, and make data-driven decisions. The topic generated significant interest, as nearly 200 participants from across Ukraine joined the event.

International partners are ready to support communities, but they are increasingly focusing not on individual ideas, but on well-prepared, data-driven projects that have clear priorities and align with strategic development goals.

Among the key highlights of the event:

  • European programs are increasingly supporting projects related to digitalization, energy efficiency, smart city solutions, and digital twins of communities.
  • Ukrainian communities have unique experience in crisis management and resilience, which is now attracting interest from European partners.
  • European municipalities are interested not only in sharing their own solutions but also in learning from Ukrainian practices for ensuring the continuity of community operations during wartime.
  • Digital twins help make data-driven decisions, manage infrastructure more effectively, plan territorial development, and attract investment.
  • Ukraine already has successful examples of using data to manage security, the education system, environmental monitoring, and urban infrastructure.
  • To attract international funding, it is becoming increasingly important for communities to collaborate with businesses, research institutions, and the civil society sector as part of international consortia.
  • Communities can join international consortia and secure funding through EU programs, including the «Digital Twins» call for proposals.

For the Center for Innovation Development team, the guiding principle remains the same: high-quality work begins with data, strategic planning, and community involvement in decision-making. This approach helps transform projects into long-term solutions for development.

Thank you to all the speakers and participants for a meaningful discussion about the future of Ukrainian communities and the tools that will help make that future a success!
